Hangouts is a Google service that replaces Google Talk, your messaging service.

Hangouts takes communication further by allowing you to have conversations with several people at once via video conferencing or using a chat room.

It can be used from the Gmail email service or as a Firefox extension. You can also organize a "hangout" from your Google+ profile, if you use Google's social network.

This program besides allowing live communication, when both people are connected, also allows leaving short messages in the mailboxes of people who are not connected at that time.
